I absolutely know that I'm not the only one who has tried this with this specific phone, and I'm far far from the only one to ever use a deactivated Android phone as an MP3 player, so I was surprised to find such little documentation on processes to specialize the device towards this use. I appreciate the help, though! And I hope this thread helps for anyone else in the future who has this issue. The only residual issue is that when the phone is locked, but awake "No SIM Installed - Emergency Calls Only" scrolls along the top left of the screen, but since it only appears in that specific situation, I'll take it over what was happening. After receiving no help here I did end up 99% solving the problem using a combination of AutoNotification and SystemUI Tuner, and possibly other smaller steps that I can't remember. Can't remember if I tried your first solution. I believe that I tried the second idea initially and it created some other sort of popup or issue instead of fixing it.
I also attempted to find an app called Package Disabler that used to be able to do this, but it seems it isn’t updated any longer for Samsung phones, from what I can tell.Īny assistance would be so appreciated! I would learn how to root, use an app, stick the SIM back in and fix wi-fi calling, whatever it takes.Įdit: a reddit user inboxed me to say that AutoNotification could be used to block the persistent notification, and it did! I considered rooting to remove the notification myself, but I’ve never used an android until now, and I’ll admit that attempting to root this S8 is more complicated than any jailbreak.
I do actually have the old SIM card, but when that’s in the phone I get permanent notifications about Wi-Fi calling not working, and it refuses to set it up since the phone isn’t activated.
can’t disable notifications from that app, as it’s a system app. However, upon removal of the SIM I have a permanent notification from Setup Wizard telling me I have no SIM. I just inherited my SO’s old phone as she just upgraded to the Pixel 3A.
